Sound Bath

Sunday, 20th May 2018

Looking to relax and find inner peace?
This is Olivier and Megan’s fourth annual Sound journey in Carnglaze Caverns. Always a profound and unforgettable experience. They’d love to share it with you.
The afternoon consists of two parts.
Part One: Limited space.  We begin by making our way down to the lower part of the cavern to the beautiful candlelit poolside. Here we settle into the energy of the rocks, water and stillness that is unique to being in the earth. The acoustics are fabulous and the feeling primal. Our voices join in song, some led, some improvised and intuitive. Allowing our hearts to connect, tune into the wisdom we find and set positive intentions for ourselves and beyond.
Part Two: The Sound Medicine Journey. This is the time to get super cosy with camping/yoga mats, sleeping bags, blankets, hats, cushions and even hot water bottles. Olivier and Megan weave sonic tapestries to guide you to a deeper state of consciousness, guided by the energy of the Caverns, woodlands and all who join us. Both Olivier and Megan bring healing through songs and sounds of our ancestors for a truly special experience that will feed your soul.

Truro Choral Society sings Orff Carmina Burana

Saturday, 16th June 2018

It’s time to eat, drink and be extremely merry.
This June, Truro Choral Society returns to Truro Cathedral to sing Carl Orff’s hugely popular and instantly recognisable cantata of 1936, Carmina Burana, with St Mary’s Singers – one of the finest chamber choirs in Cornwall – and pupils from Roselyon and Truro schools completing the wall of sound.
Orff’s striking setting of bawdy medieval poems, discovered in a Bavarian monastery in the mid-19th century, is famed for its rhythmic energy and unabashed incitement to indulge in all kinds of earthly pleasures before capricious Fortuna takes it all away. Seen by many as a choral rite of spring, the work’s spirited movements and theatrical arias never fail to entertain and grip as Orff takes the audience full circle on the cruel goddess’s wheel.
This performance will be accompanied by two pianos, with Paul Comeau and Will Fairbairn as pianists, and a large percussion section, all under the direction of Martin Palmer. The superb soloists joining the choir are the accomplished operatic and oratorio soprano Catherine Hamilton; Truro Cathedral’s assistant director of music, Joseph Wicks, as tenor and slow-roasting swan; and Dawid Kimberg, regular performer with Royal Opera House and English Touring Opera, as bass.
Additional programme items include Parry I Was Glad and the first four Songs of Farewell.
Tickets: £16 (under 19s free), available from Box Office Cornwall (01872 262466, www.hallforcornwall.co.uk)
