Save Redwing Arts and Community Hub

Help to save The Redwing Gallery, a volunteer-led arts and community hub in Penzance, Cornwall, through their new Crowdfunder campain.

The group are aiming to raise £20,000 by 3rd March 2017. We have already reached our target of £20,000 and are now aiming for our stretch target of £140,000 to secure a fit-for-purpose long-term base for Redwing to continue. Without this base, artists excluded by the mainstream art world will have nowhere to show their work and cash-strapped individuals and groups would have nowhere to meet. There is no comparable venue in our community with Redwing's inclusiveness and diversity.

Redwing has been based in an empty shop in Penzance town centre since 2013. A tremendous amount of time and effort and the input of many people has transformed an empty, neglected shell into a vibrant and welcoming community hub.

We need your help to retain Redwing project space for the local community in Penzance. There really is no other place with the diversity of Redwing in our community.

Free entry to Penlee Gallery for local residents

A new scheme at Penlee House Gallery and Museum will extend free entry from Saturdays to throughout the week for local residents. The highly acclaimed gallery, which is owned and operated by Penzance Town Council, was nominated as the sixth best ‘hidden treasure’ in a national Sunday newspaper poll and has a world famous collection of paintings by the Newlyn School artists.

The Penzance Pass scheme is aimed at residents of Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole who already support the running of the gallery through payment of the local precept. Anyone living within this area can collect their free Penzance Pass card from Penlee House Gallery and Museum or the Town Clerk’s Offices on Alverton Street, providing they bring proof of their address with them.

Director of Penlee Louise Connell says, ‘The galleries get very crowded on Saturdays, so this scheme gives local people the chance to visit for free during the week when it’s quieter, or just pop in for short visits whenever they like. We are hoping to see many more local people of all ages visiting Penlee as a result of the launch of the Penzance Pass.’

The standard entry price for visitors not qualifying for a Penzance Pass is £4.50 or £3.00 concessions, including 60 plus. Children under 18 are free.  Please note that Saturdays will no longer offer free admission for non-local residents. Visitors from outside the local area can still gain free admission if they join the Friends of Penlee House for an annual membership fee of £14 a year, or for £21 for two people living at the same address.

DYING BREED crowdunding success

DYING BREED is a feature length documentary which was looking for crown funded monies to complete the project.

Well we did it! On 1st Feb 2017 we successfully raised £1,260 with 23 supporters in 56 days.

The film is all but complete but still requires two more  essential processes: a final sound mix and a picture grade, to make it suitable for cinema distribution. To date the film has been entirely self-funded, but top quality sound mixing and picture grading are expensive. The money raised via Crowdfunding will pay for that mixing and grading, and help preserve for posterity a first rate filmic record of a part of Cornwall's heritage, at one time taken for granted, now under severe threat.

To find out more about this project and to hel fund it visit the Dying Breed Crowdfunder web page.
