Cath Bull Jewellery

I have been involved in the jewellery trade for quite a few decades now.

I have exhibited in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Lancaster Newcastle and St Just.

Throughout my career I have enjoyed breaking down barriers and taboos. I dislike labels such as Fashion Jewellery or Fine Jewellery. I like to have fun when I'm designing and making pieces so that it is sometimes difficult to ascertain what is precious and what is non precious and I very much like to juxtapose the two. I love beads because they are probably the oldest jewellery items and therefore there is a continuous link with the past when using them. Their history is sometimes very weighty which is why I think it is important to be very careful when buying old beads online. Some are definitely from burial sites and as such I would not wish to use them.

I cannot think of another art form which is so personal and carries so much symbolism and can communicate so much without words. I find I am constantly challenged by the act of designing and making. I have been asked if I use kits. No I do not. Unless the definition of kit is several square meters of storage for beads, metal, textiles, found objects, ideas scribbled on scraps of paper, graph paper to work out geometry of pieces, equations to work out the number of beads and components needed to make a piece. If only !!
